what i've been listening to …

We used to listen to Y98, but the music has been repetitious. I love the music, but you can only hear so much of the same songs. Some of us listen to KEZK; good stuff too, but most of the time, it’s soft rock. Lately, I listen to these stations only when I want to win a contest.

We started listening to the Arch, a new station that plays “70′s, 80′s, and whatever we want”. When I first heard the stuff they played, I was impressed. I was hearing good music, an eclectic mix of today and yesterday. You’ll hear Little River Band, Black Eyed Peas, ELO, Avril Lavigne. And they never play any song twice in the same day. Almost like listening to one’s iPod.

But I must say the Arch has its faults. They are heavy on the 70′s stuff. Not that I don’t like the music. It’s just that maybe 7 out of 10 songs you hear is from the 70′s. The Eagles. Lots of stuff by the Eagles. They are right in saying they don’t repeat their music that day. I heard “My Sweet Lord” by George Harrison the other day; hadn’t heard that on the radio in over a decade. I heard it again yesterday. I’ve heard several songs 2 or 3 times this week and haven’t heard them in over 10, maybe 20 years! It’s like their playlist repeats itself after 2 days. They need a more balanced mix. But it is whatever they want.

Instead, I’m listening to podcasts on the pod. I’m trying new shows to get a feel for what’s out there. But I love the tech stuff. TWiT-This Week In Tech is my favorite right now. I love Leo Laporte’s KFI show – I learn a lot from other people’s problems! And Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht do a great job with Diggnation, a recap of the top stories on Kevin’s creation, Digg.com. If you haven’t listened to podcasts, give them a try.

cooldown

The past week has been unbearably hot. Sunday – 103. Monday – 100. Tuesday – 101. Thank goodness for the storms that arrived Tuesday night. Wednesday’s high was 80, and the low last night was 60; in 36 hours temps dropped 40 degrees!

ROTS on DVD

It’s official – Revenge of the Sith will be released on DVD on Nov 1. According to Digital Bits, there will be a 6-film box set of the entire Star Wars saga, but it will probably not be anytime soon (not this year, and probably not in 2006).

can you digg it?

Hey gang – how’s it going?

  • Fixed the computer. Did a restore; now instead of 10 GB of free space, I have nearly 60.
  • Finally uploaded our pics to my gallery and all albums are available to view. Phase 2: replace certain files with better quality pics.
  • Haven’t been to the movies much this summer. CL, D, and I saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith a few weeks ago (pretty good). Last night CL and I watched Meet the Fockers (funny stuff).
  • Cards are hot. At 62-35, they have the best record in the NL. However, key players are hurt, and they lost to the Cubs yesterday.
  • Speaking of hot. 100 degree temps and heat index above 110 is ridiculous. Grass is growing without rain because it’s so tropical outside. Geez, it’s hot. It’s too hot.
  • Digg.com – check it out. Top news in tech thanks to the users of Digg. See what news I digg in the right hand column, then digg some news yourself.

Stay cool if you can.

update

It’s been awhile; here’s what’s happening …

Our computer lost most of its hard drive space; after freeing up 10 GB worth on Saturday, I lost nearly all of it by Sunday night.

Daniel, his buddy Adam, Christine and I went to Six Flags on Christine’s birthday (courtesy of Y98). It was super hot; we tried to spend the majority of it at the water park. Hurt our tailbones on the Tornado while the Boss shook us up (almost lost my glasses). Had a lot of fun regardless, and only spent $30.

Got sick to my stomach on Monday. 2nd time in a month; watching what I eat now.

Vacation pics are uploaded to the server. I still need to organize the 2nd week, but my host server has been down.

I hope to be blogging again on a regular basis – c ya real soon!

vacation pics

Ok – like I said before, this is a work in progress. So sorry it’s taken so long to get things up; I figure I should at least show some of our pics; I guess I just want to show them all at once. I’ve run into many problems – so many pictures, not enough web space, lack of time, lack of disk space on our own PC!

I finally have my own gallery set up on my site
www.tenyjr.com/gallery
I have 4 days posted on my vacation blog (includes links to the gallery)

More will be added as time will allow me – thanks for being patient, and enjoy :)

Abreu shatters Home Run Derby records

Abreu hit 24 homers in the first round en route to a record 41 to win the Home Run Derby

i won something?!?

Busy week. It’s always good to be home and see all my friends, but it certainly sucks to return to work. Thank God it was a short week. It ended on a cool note: I won a family 4-pack to Six Flags from Y98! Heard the “summer singers”, dialed the phone number, and it rang! Lady answered, “you’re our winner!” All I could say was, “You’re kidding.” Then I forgot what it was I was trying to win. Anyway, we’re 1 of 98 families going to Six Flags on Sunday, July 17 (CL’s birthday!); 4 free passes, free parking, and free lunch. Can’t beat that!

The vacation pictures are killing me! I think I’m done with the digital shots; I’m now messing with CL’s 20+ rolls. I’m still working on the descriptions for Shutterfly; looking at pictures is always nice, but there’s always a story to tell (and you know how I love to tell them). I think I will simplify the vacation blog by keeping the random pics to a minimum, and I’ll trim down the verbage. I’ll include a link to each day’s set of pics using my own gallery setup. I will only include the best pics on both Shutterfly and the blog; it will probably be the end of summer when I have all of our pictures on my own website.

pictures everywhere (except on my site)

With all the memories we have of our vacation, going through all our pictures is a lot of fun. But this is the most trying and challenging part for me since I got a digital camera 2 years ago – I’ve never had so many pictures to go through, and the process is a major pain. I alone have over 600 MB of pictures; my father-in-law took 70 MB as did Daniel (unfortunately D left his camera in NC). Christine’s SLR and SureShot produced more than 20 rolls, which the majority of have been developed. She did purchase a CD for each roll developed, so you’re talking approximately 500 more digital images!

My real dilemma is lack of webspace. I only have 300 MB of space thru my host VizaWeb. And I’ve been playing with several gallery programs for my website, but I haven’t found one that I’m satisfied with yet. I can show off pics via Flickr, but I’m limited to 20 MB per month (they offer unlimited space for an annual fee). The other problem I’m running into is the uploading process. The image files are huge, and the uploads are so slow. I’ve actually uploaded a batch, only to delete them from my server, copy them, resize them, then upload again. Painful!

So at this time, I will share the cream of the crop via Shutterfly. There are no limits for uploading, and CL can get prints if she’d like. I will post a link as soon as it’s ready.

I’m also working on a new blog in which I relive each day of our trip with random pics. I wanted the vacation blog to be separate from my own, so I’m using Blogger to publish it. This is also a work in progress, so please bear with me.

Hopefully, in the next month or so, I will be able display all our pictures using my own gallery on my website.

there's no place like home

We’re home! CL and I left Tybee Island, Georgia on Thursday morning and arrived in Charlotte that afternoon. We stayed at my in-laws’ for the night, then left for home with D on Friday morning. We hit some rain near the NC/TN border, rush hour traffic in Nashville, then more rain in Kentucky; no real problems. The vacation was great; we did a lot we normally don’t do and had a lot of fun. Yet we are happy to be home. Salem comes home from camp today, and we can’t wait to see him!

I’m a little disappointed with my blogging attempts on the road. All I could post were the audio blogs; no pics posted from my phone. That’s ok; between CL’s 20+ rolls of film and my 3 memory cards, we have over 1000 pictures! I will do my best to get mine up this weekend. I will also attempt to create a blog of the vacation to go with our pics.
