i feel fine

and
It occurred to me that my posts the past 2 weeks might be depressing to some. In reality, all is well. Yes, work sucks, but it’s a part of life that I’m dealing with. Blogging allows me to let off some steam and vent in ways that I normally can’t do in the workplace. That was the whole point of me starting a blog in the first place a year and a half ago.
'back to school' on Jeopardy!
Local boy competes on ‘Jeopardy!’ (Belleville News-Democrat)
I love ‘Jeopardy!’ I grew up watching it at the dinner table each night. A decade ago, on my late uncle’s advice, I applied to be on the show but was unavailable for testing in NYC because I was away at school. Since I moved to the Midwest, I haven’t watched the game show since they air it at 3:30 pm (I’m usually at work). I need to invest in TiVo; I’d love to watch Scottie and see how well he does.

Cards collapse
Are Cardinals headed for . . . Fall Classic or classic fall? (St Louis Post-Dispatch)
“The pitching has been spotty, and the middle of the lineup hasn’t produced consistently. They [may] win the division, but I don’t think they’re going anyplace; they’ll get knocked out the first round.”
A 7-game lead in the NL Central division just a week ago, the Cardinals have lost 7 in a row with just 5 games left in the regular season. The Houston Astros are super hot and now only trail St Louis by 1½ games. It’s very frustrating that I can’t even watch the games anymore. Someone needs to step up and fast.
back into hell
This morning, I took in a potential prospect for the helpdesk and started training. Instead, I scared him away. So there went my chance for freedom from the helpdesk.
Damnit.
The guy is experienced with computers and would probably make a great tech. But he was hesitant to answer phone calls and said he didn’t want to be a “clerk” tied to a desk. I don’t blame him; that’s how I’ve felt for the past year.
My frustrations continue to mount each day. My helpdesk partner is back, but somehow, I can’t seem to shake the dark cloud hovering over me. My analyst work is piling up (with problems I don’t know how to solve yet), and when I focus on my new job, my old one comes back to haunt me. When I have to cover the helpdesk, the new job rears its ugly head. Murphy’s frickin’ Law; I hate it.
My gameplan tomorrow is to work in the other office when I’m not helpdesk. It’s the only way I can get work done, if any. Something’s gotta give.
I’m stressed. I’m exhausted. I have a headache that won’t go away, and my left ear hurts like hell (freakin’ allergies).
global transmission media
My cousin Renato (above, 2nd from the right) and his GT-mates are currently travelling the world and capturing it beautifully with film, pictures, and great stories.
Ren is in the midst of a world tour that started December 2005 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Global Transmission team met up with him in Buenos Aires, Argentina last August. Ren is currently in China dealing with the language barrier and playing a live version of ‘Asteroids’.
Check out their projects and their journal at Global Transmission Media (also, be sure to look for the trailer for ¿Dónde está Ché Pelotas?).
to hell and back
For me, probably the worst week ever.
Not that my new job is horrible. I enjoy the aspect of programming, and I look forward to doing this in the months to come. The work-week will be great (4 ten-hour days a week, 1 day off a week, a 4-day weekend every other weekend). And better pay, of course.
The problem is (more…)
multitasking
First day on the new job. Still doing the old job. Occasionally helping with other jobs.
Absolute chaos.
It wasn’t that bad of a day. The new me felt I got some accomplished, while the old me felt I got nothing done. The people I work with laugh when they see me wear many hats. I guess it’s amusing to them now that I am a part of their world. I just keep reminding myself what my predecessor told me: “you’ll thank me in a few weeks when you get your first paycheck.”
ten years gone
Thanks to my cousin Jeff for introducing me to chatting online a decade ago. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have been hanging out in chat rooms on America Online, signed in as “Tenyrsgon“. I wouldn’t have been in a particular room called “Friends First”, saying hello to all incoming chatters like a professional Walmart greeter. Most importantly, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet someone on this very day 10 years ago. Someone who everyone referred to as “CL”.
wishlist
With the holidays just around the corner (I know, seems kinda early, doesn’t it?), I set up a wishlist for those of you who want to know what I want for Christmas this year. I temporarily disabled my Music page to make room for the wishlist. I used MasterWish since they provided a WordPress plugin to display my wishlist on my blog. The list is fairly new, but I will be adding a lot to it (don’t worry – I don’t expect to get everything; these are just ideas).
What’s nice is I can set the priority on each item to show how much I want it. All the items are linked to Amazon, but they don’t necessarily have to come from there; it’s just a reference point. By the way, I’ll be needing wishlists as well; believe it or not, I’ve started shopping.
another door opens
Remember the job I spoke of a few weeks back? I got it. This is big for me. I’m now a programmer/analyst, and I officially start Monday. I’m excited, overwhelmed, scared, nervous, anxious, all in one big knot in my stomach. Thankfully, I haven’t gotten sick over this. Not yet anyway.
Wish me luck.
September 11, 2001
May we never forget those who lost their lives on 9/11.
May we remember our heroes who sacrificed a great deal on that day and everyday since then.
May we honor and support our troops who continue to fight for our country and for our freedom.
Rams 18, Broncos 10
Rams ride defense, Wilkins past Denver (NFL.com)
“Scott Linehan’s NFL coaching debut was a success, but much of it was owed to Jim Haslett, the new St. Louis defensive coordinator who was Saints head coach the previous six seasons.”
Defense was big for St Louis, forcing 5 turnovers and sacking Jake Plummer 4 times. If only the offense can get going: 0 for 5 in the red zone, and first string is 0 for 22 in the touchdown department since the preseason. Linehan had a nice balance of run (28) and pass (34), a major contrast to former coach Martz’s high flying “greatest show on turf”. All in all, a good start for the Rams. We’ll see how they do next week at San Francisco.
rest in peace, Tito Teddy
Today is the day they lay my uncle to rest. I am sorry that we cannot be there to lend our support.
Tita Volet, Bong, and Jeffrey – our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Love,
Neil, Christine, Daniel, and Salem

memorials
My cousin Jeff put up a memorial for his father on the web.
take a sad song and make it better
I miss my uncle a great deal. In memory of Tito Teddy, I will only listen to The Beatles until he is laid to rest.
This song is for my cousins.

My uncle Ted passed away today. I got the call from my mother while I was at work. I am sad, but I’m also relieved. His suffering has ended, and he is at peace with God. I now pray for my aunt and especially for my cousins. They are young, and it is very hard for them to accept that their father is gone from this world. I can’t imagine what they are feeling.
My uncle was a great man, fun to be around, and very loving. He was a family man who loved his boys very much.
I will certainly miss …
- his smile. Always smiling and laughing.
- his style. He was the definition of “smooth”.
- his love for sports. He loved watching his NY teams play, and he was a great tennis player and golfer.
- his passion for music. He loved all kinds, but The Beatles ruled his world. I remember listening to him play the piano and singing; he was a good singer.
- our little chats. When we could, we would talk about anything, whether it was sports, family, and life in general. When I was troubled as a teen, I didn’t like it that the family knew of my problems. He assured me that things would work out, everyone would support me, and I had nothing to be ashamed of.
We will miss you, Tito Teddy. We all love you.
