birthday greetings

Today is my uncle Nestor’s birthday (shown here with my grandmother). Happy Birthday Ninong!
Cards reliever killed in car crash

There will be no baseball played tonight in St Louis as the Cardinals mourn the passing of pitcher Josh Hancock.

Well, it’s taken a week for me to transfer my domain and my files to GoDaddy. I pray I don’t have to do this again anytime soon, because it’s not an easy process. I nearly forgot to back up my database; I seriously believed I lost all my original posts and thought I would be starting all over. Then I played the waiting game before my previous registrar would approve my transfer request to GoDaddy. Then I had some issues with installing WordPress; I hadn’t done it since I first established this blog 2 years ago, and I don’t recall it being difficult the first time around. (more…)
downtime
There may be disruption to this site in the next few days. I’m in the process of moving everything to a new server. At the same time, I stopped posting on tenyjr.wordpress.com (because posting the same thing in 2 places is just dumb at this point). I hope the transition will be smooth, then I’ll continue ’365′ along with other updates as soon as it’s all in place.

Salem wonders where Mommy disappeared to (yard sale) on our walk this morning.

Tonight, for dinner, the theme was “everyone fend for themselves”. So I pulled out this “hearty serving” of pork and mashed potatoes. It did not look as good as it did on the box (they never do), but it was actually pretty good. On a side note, my Flickr Pro account expired today, so I’ve been downgraded to the free account, which basically shows my last 200 pics. I plan to renew the Pro account after payday, along with all the other stuff (domain, hosting, etc).

Charlie Brown, as depicted on a birthday card from my coworkers. I’m late with this post. I celebrated my birthday on Monday, but it was also a day of sadness. I won’t say much about what happened at Virginia Tech. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.

Salem, while working on a “special treat”, looks up as his mom calls him.
update 041507
I’ve got about a week left before it’s time to renew the domain “tenyjr.com”. I also plan to change hosts for my blog. Vizaweb was good the first year, but the 2 day outage last November has me looking elsewhere for better service and support. Right now, GoDaddy is an obvious choice, but I’m still researching it. 8/365 – squirrel!
I’m kind of cheating with this one. I was out for most of the day, and I did not take any pictures. I may be going back occasionally to post an old picture with some kind of little story behind it. This was taken back in February (either by Daniel or Christine). Usually, when there’s a squirrel on the deck, CL will tell Salem “Squirrel!! Go get ‘em!” Of course, the dog will run outside and go bonkers chasing after the poor animal as it flies up a tree.

Apollo 13
April 13, 1970: Apollo 13 Tells Houston, ‘We’ve Got a Problem’
Manned space flight has become so routine that it is easy to forget that it’s inherently dangerous to stuff astronauts inside a cramped capsule and blast them into the heavens on top of a Saturn V rocket. The Apollo 13 mission reminded us just how vulnerable we are.

“Aloha Makana”. Pineapple, mandarin oranges, and Canadian bacon (or what we call “ham”). It’s what’s for dinner.
6/365 – self-heating cocoa
I’m not a coffee drinker. I love the smell of coffee, but the taste makes me sick. I was certainly intrigued by these self-heating drinks that our local grocery store was selling. But all they had were coffee, so I wasn’t interested. Until recently, that is, when I noticed they had hot chocolate! So I forked over $2.59 for this drink because I wanted to see if the self-heating process really worked. You remove the safety cap on the bottom; with the can upside-down on a firm surface, you press this button to drain this green fluid. I believe this stuff fills the outer shell of the can, mixing with another liquid (I’m not sure what, but at this point, it doesn’t really matter). After 10 seconds, you set the can upright and let it sit for 5-8 minutes. After the time passes, this pink dot on the label turns white. The drink is now hot. “Shake, open, and enjoy!” says the label. Now when the green fluid was mixing with the other liquid, the can emitted this chemical-like odor. I’m doing this at my desk, and I’m thinking, great, now my co-worker’s gonna think there’s a gas leak somewhere. I shook the can really good because I like a rich, chocolaty taste (I always put extra Quik in my chocolate milk). Unfortunately, it was very bland. And the freaking chemical scent didn’t help much either. But I guess I got what I paid for, since the drink was hot. Next time, I’ll just stick to Swiss Miss.

Probably the brightest part of my day at work is the miniature rubber ducky sitting on my desk. I have a lot to do the next 2 days, so I pray the issues, disruptions, and emergencies are at a minimum.

Music is a big part of my life. My friend had asked me, “would you rather lose the sense of sight or hearing?” As much as I would hate to lose the beautiful visuals that life has to offer, I told him I would rather be blind than deaf. I don’t think I could ever do without the sound of music. Of course, a video iPod wouldn’t do much good for a blind person (although 80 GB would hold a lot of mp3′s).

All the meds I’ve taken to relieve the headaches I’ve been having for the last 7 months. Thankfully, I haven’t had much of a headache since my wisdom teeth have been removed. Of course, now I’m back on painkillers thanks to my knee.
