Death Magnetic

Metallica’s ninth studio album Death Magnetic was released last Friday. Picked up my copy from Target on Saturday, and I can’t stop listening to it (that is, until I load up Baby Einstein for Sophia). It’s fast and furious. It’s reminiscent of their sound from the 80′s before they went mainstream in 1991 with their self-titled disc (aka The Black Album). James Hetfield’s lyrics aren’t as good as they used to be, but Kirk Hammett shines with the return of the guitar solo. The last album, St. Anger, was a muddled mess of a jam session. Don’t get me wrong; I liked St. Anger, and there are some great songs on there. But the album as a whole was a disappointment. It’s good to hear that the band can still rip it to shreds with this CD. My favorite tunes at the moment: All Nightmare Long, Suicide & Redemption (Hetfield and Hammett go crazy on this one), and the first single, The Day That Never Comes:
