memorials

My cousin Jeff put up a memorial for his father on the web.

take a sad song and make it better

I miss my uncle a great deal. In memory of Tito Teddy, I will only listen to The Beatles until he is laid to rest.

This song is for my cousins.

Teodoro Jose, Jr

My uncle Ted passed away today. I got the call from my mother while I was at work. I am sad, but I’m also relieved. His suffering has ended, and he is at peace with God. I now pray for my aunt and especially for my cousins. They are young, and it is very hard for them to accept that their father is gone from this world. I can’t imagine what they are feeling.

My uncle was a great man, fun to be around, and very loving. He was a family man who loved his boys very much.

I will certainly miss …

  • his smile. Always smiling and laughing.
  • his style. He was the definition of “smooth”.
  • his love for sports. He loved watching his NY teams play, and he was a great tennis player and golfer.
  • his passion for music. He loved all kinds, but The Beatles ruled his world. I remember listening to him play the piano and singing; he was a good singer.
  • our little chats. When we could, we would talk about anything, whether it was sports, family, and life in general. When I was troubled as a teen, I didn’t like it that the family knew of my problems. He assured me that things would work out, everyone would support me, and I had nothing to be ashamed of.

We will miss you, Tito Teddy. We all love you.

life is rough

These days, I’m trying to stay on top of things without losing my sanity.

The IT department is going through more changes, and we’ve been dealing with probably the highest volume of calls to date. It’s so busy that I’m behind in submitting my completed tickets. The tensions continue between the different levels of support in Operations; my partner is the spark that may cause the powder keg to explode. I’ve done all I can to keep tempers from flaring, but it’s difficult when everyone is so divided on how to get things done.

Just to add to my confusion, one of our analysts has accepted another job from within the organization. So his position has opened up, and I’ve been told that I am the prime candidate to fill his shoes. This is a great opportunity for me, and I can’t pass it up. To be honest, I’m ready to leave the service desk. If I have to answer yet another phone call … (There’s an office pool on how soon I’ll snap).

This window of opportunity, along with the stress of my current job, has my stomach in knots. Literally. I suffered yet another stomach bug a few weeks ago, and the last few nights I’ve been nauseous. I woke up today at 3 am in a fit of pain. My coworker told me I need to be careful with my stress levels; she said one word – ulcers. To top it off, my throat’s been bothering me; our office assistant is just overcoming strep, so I’m not too crazy to hear about that.

But the biggest thing on my mind is my uncle Teddy. He’s been very sick for some time now and was hospitalized late last week. Talking to my parents, they say it’s not looking good for him. I spoke to my cousin, and he sounded so lost and helpless. I last saw my uncle this past Christmas; he looked frail, but his spirit was strong. No one should suffer as he and his family has for the past year.

Tito Teddy, Tita Volet, Ted, and Jeff: I’m sorry we’re not there to be with you during this difficult time. We are praying for you. You are on our minds and in our hearts.

update 081906

It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged about what’s up here in the Midwest.

It’s been hot, but not too bad.

I’ve been to Busch Stadium twice in the past 2 weeks.

  • First game was on a Sunday, and CL and I stayed through the 5th inning. It was so hot that day, the sodas and lemonade weren’t enough to keep us hydrated. As we left, we missed the 3-run homer hit by Juan Encarnacion. Cards beat the Brewers, 7-1.
  • Second game was last Wednesday night; coworker had a spare ticket. The Cards stunk up the joint, losing 7-2 to Cincinnati.

I will say that the new Busch Stadium is a sight to see. Once I’m done uploading vacation pics (I know, I know; it’s already been a month; I hope to be done soon), I will post our pics of Busch.

Speaking of vacation pics, I’ve decided to bring back the vacation blog (started summer of 2005, but never finished). I will continue this personal journal of our travels. I will be working on this along with uploading pics, so I hope to have it up by next weekend.

D starts school on Tuesday. He’s excited to get back to some serious stud…, er, socializing. Look up “teenager” in the dictionary, and you’ll see his picture (see also “attitude”, “crab”, and the antonym for “good listener”).

I don’t normally weigh myself, but I know I’ve gained some weight. My belly has grown, and it bothers me. My pants fit a bit more snug than usual. And I feel the extra inch(es?) when I sit at my desk. Maybe it’s time to start doing some sit-ups. “Welcome to the 30′s!”

fine arts

Tonight we went to D’s school for their spring fine arts festival. Works of art by the students were on display. The beginner, intermediate, and advanced bands and D’s chorus put on great performances. Familiar music was on hand; highlights included The Simpsons, Star Wars, and Earth Wind & Fire’s “September”. Given my camera has no optical zoom, I just took random shots. I did try to record audio; the quality is not the best, but it captures the performances well. I will try editing the audio and post some of it this weekend.

easter weekend

Had a great weekend in Charlotte. Surprisingly cool at the start, but hot the rest of the way.

  • Spent time with my brother-in-law Gary and his kids
  • Got to experience TV in high def (very, very cool)
  • Had a wonderful Easter dinner made by CL and her mom
  • Participated in a ping pong tourney (Gary proved he’s the champ)
  • Celebrated my 34th birthday (thanks to all for the gifts! and thank you, Jean, for the cake!)
  • Kids had an Easter egg hunt (I missed it due to not feeling so well)

All in all, a wonderful weekend with family.

Happy Birthday Steve!

Here’s wishing a wonderful day and another great year to my brother-in-law!

Happy Birthday, Jasmine!

My niece turns 4 today :)

Congratulations, Glenda and KV on the birth of your beautiful baby girl!
Lots of love from your Kuya Neil and Ate Christine!

1 year

A lot has happened since I started on Blogger a year ago today …

  • the creation of teny jr dot com
  • CL and I celebrated 5 years of marriage
  • got a new job
  • D became a teenager
  • spent my first Christmas in CT since ’97 (CL’s and D’s first with my family)
  • got my new laptop

I reposted the original entries that got me to start blogging – basically me bitching about work. Since I no longer work there, I felt it was ok to put them back in (names were changed to protect others).

A total of 283 posts, and I don’t plan on stopping.

holiday recap

What I hadn’t blogged about for the past week and a half …

Thursday – 12-22 – “Friday” for us at work. Opened presents when I got home. CL got a new purse, D got a portable DVD player, and I got a new watch (among other things, of course).
Friday – 12-23 – Took Salem for a long walk, then to “camp”. He hated it, as did the rest of us. Flew to CT.
Saturday – 12-24 – Drove to NJ to see Dad’s family. Had dinner at the “white house” in Franklin Lakes. Returned to CT after midnight.
Sunday – 12-25 – Went to Christmas Day mass with Mom and Dad. Had brunch; my sister and her family arrived. After they ate, we opened gifts. Jasmine had a field day with her pile of presents. Everyone was happy; needless to say, I’m well on my way to purchasing my own computer :)
Monday – 12-26 – Day of rest. Rainy but mild. Took CL to Mohegan Sun; she made $.25! Picked up D and went shopping.
Tuesday – 12-27 – Mom and Dad took us to breakfast, then to the airport. D got sick after the first flight; he slept on our connecting flight from Charlotte. Arrived home around 6:30 pm. Got sick that night.
Skip to Saturday – 12-31 – Got sick again that morning. Went to Applebee’s for dinner (didn’t finish mine, but did ok). We played games and watched War of the Worlds; good movie, yet weird and confusing. Celebrated the New Year, then went to bed (uneventful).

Hope everyone had a nice holiday :)
