I watched the Foo Fighters’ concert DVD “Skin And Bones” this weekend. Awesome acoustic show from a band that rocks. So needless to say, my list is all Foo. (more…)

A client at work.

Here’s a topic that will make you look in your mp3 players and winamps and on your CD and LP covers
Top 5 songs under 3 minutes long

young, raw, and it rocks

one of Eddie’s better riffs

you can’t help but sing along

classic songwriting and singing by the man in black

the riff is so good I wish it lasted longer than 3 min

Top 5 Worst Songs by your Favorite Artist(s)
I’m a day late; here it is, in no particular order …
- “One Foot Out The Door” – Van Halen – the 2 things this song has going for it is (a) it’s on probably the best VH album ever (Fair Warning), and (b) a killer solo that unfortunately fades out to close the album
- “Spanked” – Van Halen – a heavy, bass-driven song that dies quickly thanks to the poorly written lyrics of Sammy Hagar
- “Some Kind of Monster” – Metallica - a horrible mishmash of nothing
- “Purify” - Metallica – another loud mishmash; surprisingly has a good riff, but unfortunately it’s at the end of the song
- “Up For Breakfast” – Van Halen – a song driven by Eddie’s guitar funk; it could’ve sparked the rebirth of VH, but sadly, Sammy’s food/sex metaphors are just too silly to enjoy this one

Top 5 Album Titles
BoDeans – Home
A simple title for a simple album (and a good one too).
chooseday
Would you rather:
- cover all your food in barbeque sauce OR eat everything with a toothpick?
- know how to throw a lasso with perfect accuracy OR be an expert trombonist?
- smell like pickles OR walk like a penguin?
- touch your finger to your nose everytime somebody says the word “know” OR laugh uncontrollably whenever somebody says the word “but”?
- Sometimes, too much sauce is a bad thing. I can play “Rain Man” and eat with a toothpick.
- Being a music lover, I think it would be awesome to play the trombone!
- Horrible body odor sucks. I’ll walk like a penguin anyday.
- I love to laugh. But (hahaha) laughing each time it’s said places me center stage, and I don’t like a lot of attention. Touching my nose seems harmless.

Top 5 songs that you liked as a child that you still like now.
- “I Get Around” – The Beach Boys
- “Something” – The Beatles
- “New Kid In Town” – The Eagles
- “Billie Jean” – Michael Jackson
- “The Reflex” – Duran Duran
I wasn’t born yet to enjoy The Beach Boys or The Beatles in their prime, but my parents played their music a lot when I was growing up. These songs certainly bring back memories.
friday five – computer habits
1. How much time do you spend on the Internet daily? – on weekdays 3 hours; the weekend probably jacks the daily average up to 7 hours. That’s just the Internet. I’m always on the computer.
2. What are your favorite 3 websites? – Digg.com, Flickr, and I’ve just started using Bloglines.
3. Do you eat at your computer? – Occasionally at work. Almost never at home.
4. Pick one and why – Reading the news online or in a newspaper? – Online. It’s cleaner. For local news, I watch it on TV.
5. How many people are on your instant messenger buddy list? – just 2, on Gmail – my wife and my helpdesk partner at work.

Top 5 Debut albums and the most memorable song off of each of the albums
- Van Halen – VAN HALEN – “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”
- Guns ‘N’ Roses – APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION – “Sweet Child O’ Mine”
- The Black Crowes – SHAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER – “Hard To Handle”
- Pearl Jam – PEARL JAM – “Jeremy”
- Alanis Morissette – JAGGED LITTLE PILL – “You Oughta Know”
Ok, technically, Alanis’ original debut was a dance-pop effort in Canada, but we won’t count that.
blogdrive insanity
I’m late with this, but oh well…
Wednesday Mind Hump (Blogdrive Insanity)

2. What’s your favorite ice cream treat (or other cold treat)?
Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Cup ice cream (or any brand of cookies & cream)
3. What’s your favorite cold beverage?
Lemon-flavored iced tea – Nestea, Lipton (Brisk), or Arizona will do

Usually cubed, but I prefer crushed

Musical Firsts: (How many can you remember)
First CD/Album Purchased: Private Eyes – Daryl Hall and John Oates (cassette)
First Concert: U2, The Joshua Tree Tour, Nov 87, Hampton VA
First Over 21 Show: Hmm … don’t think I’ve ever been to one of those.
First Musical Obsession: VH
First Musical Crush: Debbie Gibson (she was so cute in her rarely-seen “Staying Together” music video)
First Musical/Musical Movie: Grease (saw the movie at the drive-in)
First Stereo: a Fisher dual-cassette boombox (detachable speakers and high-speed dubbing, baby!)
First Portable Device/Player: a Sony Walkman with a 3-band graphic equalizer. It was pretty cool back in the 7th grade, even though it weighed a ton.

“History Repeats Day” courtesy of Blogdrive Insanity
1. Name your three favorite cover songs.
- You Really Got Me – Van Halen (originally by The Kinks)
- Stone Cold Crazy – Metallica (originally by Queen)
- Voodoo Child (Slight Return) – Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble (originally by The Jimi Hendrix Experience)
2. What’s one artist, concert or musical era that you’d like to have been alive to see, or see again if you saw it in the past?
Van Halen with David Lee Roth
3. What’s one history lesson that you think a certain band or musician, or all musicians, should quit repeating?
I think Eddie Van Halen needs to get a grip, relax, and starting making great music again with WHOMEVER. I’m tired of nothing happening in the VH camp due to legal crap. I just wanna hear Ed wail on the guitar.
4. Name a band that’s not together anymore (members can be alive or dead) that you would absolutely love to see reform.
Without a doubt, The Beatles.
friday feast #79
Appetizer – About how much money did you spend on gas this week?
None. I’m at half a tank, and it’s currently 2.88. It helps that I only drive 6 miles a day to and from work.
Soup – What is your favortite brand of toilet paper?
I don’t know. Don’t squeeze the Charmin.
Salad – When was the last time you discovered something that you thought was pure genius?
The lightbox javascript feature. However, I’ve disabled it since it bogged down the performance of this site. I still think I can put it to great use on this site, but it will have to be very lightweight.
Main Course – What is the least amount of sleep you can get by on per night?
Maybe 4 hours. But that’s pushing it; I’ll be a zombie all day.
Dessert – June is a popular month for weddings. Do you know anyone who is getting married this month?
No. But CL and I will celebrate our 6th anniversary on the 22nd.
