Pasado’s Safe Haven needs your help
Over 2 weeks have passed since Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, and rescuers from Pasado’s Safe Haven are finding animals barely alive in homes. The situation is dire. The rescuers need supplies, hot meals, and more people to help with the enormous task of finding and saving these animals.

The stories are very sad to read. If I could leave my job and my family to help, I would. But I don’t think I’m strong enough to handle the sight of a poor animal under these conditions.
If you can help, PLEASE do so:

Pet rescuers race against time – CNN.com article
Many people who remain in New Orleans do so because of their pets. I watched on NBC News last night how one lady who would not leave her 21 dogs. 21!! To see the footage, go to NBC Nightly News and underneath “Video – Sept. 9: Fallout at FEMA”, click on the link titled “82nd Airborne Brings Skills to New Orleans” (Internet Explorer required).

Rescuers scramble to reach animals – USA Today
I believe I would either stay with Salem or take him with me.
there’s no place like home
We’re home! CL and I left Tybee Island, Georgia on Thursday morning and arrived in Charlotte that afternoon. We stayed at my in-laws’ for the night, then left for home with D on Friday morning. We hit some rain near the NC/TN border, rush hour traffic in Nashville, then more rain in Kentucky; no real problems. The vacation was great; we did a lot we normally don’t do and had a lot of fun. Yet we are happy to be home. Salem comes home from camp today, and we can’t wait to see him!
I’m a little disappointed with my blogging attempts on the road. All I could post were the audio blogs; no pics posted from my phone. That’s ok; between CL’s 20+ rolls of film and my 3 memory cards, we have over 1000 pictures! I will do my best to get mine up this weekend. I will also attempt to create a blog of the vacation to go with our pics.

busy saturday
I finally had a pretty productive Saturday. Took CL to work so I could clean out her car. Walked the dog, then took him to the groomer’s for a haircut and bath. Did a whole bunch of laundry, including our sheets and blankets (smelled like Stinky). Vacuumed and washed the car (even as it rained a few times). Didn’t bother drying it since I knew the rain was coming, and it came in buckets just after I finished (at least it’s clean now for our big road trip). Finally got a haircut, showered, then picked up CL followed by the pup. Poor Salem spent the whole day there, and his paws hurt – she clipped his nails too close (one bled).
Now that I have a summer cut, my head feels so much better now! It was very long and thick, all over my ears and in my eyes. My ballcaps wouldn’t fit anymore. Bill asked me “How tight you want it?”. I told him, “Real tight! I want almost all of it gone!” Bill gives great haircuts, and as busy as they were, I was glad to get him.
Watched the Big Unit shut down the Cards 5-0, grilled some hot dogs, then CL and I watched After The Sunset. Good movie with plot twists and humor. Sorry D – it may be PG-13 but it’s not for you! Maybe in 2 or 3 years.
2 weeks …
… are all that stands between me and Florida. Well, that and a database project. Oh, and I have end-of-the-year stuff to take care of, too. Geez, just a minute ago 2 weeks sounded good.
Did the TripTik thing at AAA today, went to the bank, stopped at the grocery store, and took puppy for a walk. It’s hot today, and we all felt it. Poor Salem’s tongue’s still hanging out.
