Sophia Sorry I’ve been away so long. I’m sure you all understand. Sophia’s 25 days old, and she’s running the show. She develops a pattern, then she breaks it. As any baby can be, she’s completely unpredictable. Being a new dad, I’m adjusting to all of this as best I can. I’m used to routines and schedules. There really is no such thing as a routine with a baby. I knew all this going in, having read the books and hearing the stories from people who’ve “been there, done that”. However, it’s easier knowing it than actually doing it.

Per the doctor’s office, we switched formulas last Saturday to help ease Sophia’s tummy aches. She’s doing much better, not needing to burp as much, but she has been spitting up more. Not that it all comes back up; it just stinks and it’s messy. For Christine, every day is “pajama day”. That makes a lot of sense as I have changed shirts multiple times this week.

She has somewhat improved in the “sleeping at night” department. The trick is getting her to finish a bottle in a timely manner. Doesn’t always happen. And when she falls asleep in your arms after feeding, she usually wakes up after you put her in bed. We’re still trying to figure this out, but we’ll get there (at least, I hope we do).

I’ve uploaded a batch of photos to Sophia’s Flickr set. Click on the photo above, or just go to my Flickr page.

My baby’s two weeks old today :)

10 days old

pretty girl
Sophia is doing well. She had her first doctor visit yesterday afternoon. Her official weight is 8 lbs, 2 oz (although her mother and I don’t agree with it since her follow-up at the hospital 2 days prior weighed her at 7 lbs, 9 oz). She eats roughly every 2 to 3 hours (I now refer to it as “feeding-on-demand”). Sophia does not like it when we lay her down on the changing table to change her diaper, change her clothes, or put lotion on; it seems baby doesn’t like to be naked, and she lets everyone know it. Christine gets up with her roughly 2 to 3 times each night; some nights are better than others. I initially started out staying up with her, but after this week’s work in the yard with my folks, I’ve been dog-tired. Christine tries to get her naps when she can. All in all, mom and baby are doing fine.

gift for Sophia

Christine’s friend Tammy made a special gift for Sophia.
Thank you, Tammy! :)

If you don’t happen to follow my Twitter feed (located in the right hand column under the heading “what am I doing?”), and you’re looking for newer photos of Sophia, keep an eye on her photoset on Flickr. I’ll be adding pics daily as time allows. Also, don’t forget to check out her pictures taken by the professional here at the hospital!

At 1204 on June 2, 2008, Sophia Rose was born. Weight at 7 lbs, 13 oz, and 20 inches long. She’s so precious and beautiful. I couldn’t tell you all the wonderful emotions that hit me throughout the day. Both Christine and Sophia are doing fine. Of course, I had great difficulty uploading pictures to Flickr (since my department blocks this site for our employees), not to mention my camera is malfunctioning. So in the 9 o’clock hour, as tired as I am, I finally have them posted. Click on Sophia’s picture above to see the set. I’ll post more when I can.
