Really?! with Seth and Amy
Thursday night, Saturday Night Live had a special half hour Weekend Update. Very funny stuff. The highlight for me was Seth and Amy’s analysis of Kanye West’s behavior at last Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.
idol
Sorry to see Matt Giraud go home tonight. However, his performance of “Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman” was just not good enough. I still like Chris Daughtry’s version on American Idol 3 years ago.
UPDATE: ok, I jumped the gun. Looks like the vote was 3 to 1 to keep Matty around another week. Now that the judges used the save, from this point on, the contestants, who are all good, must be prepared to go home each week.
no CBS on Charter?
Charter will no longer carry KMOV-TV (Belleville News-Democrat)
[the comments on BND are pretty good]
St Louis television station and Charter at impasse (St Louis Post Dispatch)
This doesn’t really bother me all that much. We watch KSDK/NBC for our news. The only time we watch CBS is to catch Survivor or Amazing Race (although I’ve kinda watched How I Met Your Mother in recent months). So when it comes to time to catch these shows, I can pick it up over the air (using the new digital converters as of Feb 9, of course). Otherwise, not my loss. At least, not unless Charter caves to KMOV and starts charging an additional body part to the arm and a leg that I’m already paying for to get their services.

Biden and Palin on SNL
Palin and Clinton on SNL
This is the closest I’ll get to blogging about politics. Tina Fey returned to Saturday Night Live last night to join Amy Poehler for a hilarious opening skit on SNL’s season premiere. Fey is perfect as Sarah Palin, and Poehler has always done a great Hillary Clinton (and she didn’t disappoint last night). If you missed it, click below to check it out.
24
With the writer’s strike in full swing, here’s a little something for Jack Bauer fans … 24: The Unaired 1994 Pilot
Prison Break

This series should’ve ended midway through the 2nd season. With that being said, putting Michael Scofield in the Panamanian prison Sona (along with Agent Alex Mahone, Captain Bill Bellick, and fellow fugitive T-Bag) has put a new spin on the premise of the show. The odds are against Scofield, given he knew exactly what he was going to do at Fox River. In Sona, there are no guards and no rules. Should be a good season.
Teny Jr, Simpsonized
I’m not a big fan of “The Simpsons”. I watched the first season, but I don’t really remember much from it. I do remember them when they were just animated shorts on Fox’s “The Tracey Ullman Show”. But since then, I haven’t watched any of the series because I just don’t have any interest in it (or in the upcoming movie). I will say SimpsonizeMe.com is pretty fun. I uploaded a picture of me, and the site transformed me into a Simpsons character. Afterwards, I tweaked it a bit to get it to look more like me. If you want to make yourself a member of the Simpsons universe, I recommend reading these tips to get the best results. I actually like this one better than my previous “Simpsons” avatar, which I manually created.

Is '24' running out of time?

The 6th season of 24 has been repetitive, long, predictable, and sad to say it, boring. I purposely missed the last 2 episodes, and I quit taping it this past Monday. My favorite show on television for the past 5 years has now been replaced by Heroes.
“It hurts to hear the criticism,” said executive producer and writer Howard Gordon, “But it’s reinvigorated our determination to reinvent the show. This year could be seen to be the last iteration of it in its current state.”
I believe Jack Bauer will be back next year; I hope he has another bad “day” (and a great season for us fans).

delay
Currently, Game 4 of the World Series between the Cardinals and the Tigers is in a rain delay. I’ve got Fox on one TV (where I usually play video games) while CL and I watch our other shows Jericho and Lost on another. The rain has been pretty much non-stop all day today. It hasn’t been a downfall, but a constant drizzle. It must be exciting to go to a World Series game, but I think I’d be more comfortable at home than at Busch Stadium where it’s cold and wet.
rambling
So much is happening these days, I don’t even know where to begin.
My headaches come and go. Work is not as stressful as I try to continue to separate both jobs. I was assured that my replacement will be starting in a few weeks. With the remodel finished, IT is somewhat back to normal.
TV roundup
Thanks to my friend Scott, I’ve been watching too much TV lately (and in his eyes, not enough).
‘back to school’ on Jeopardy!
Local boy competes on ‘Jeopardy!’ (Belleville News-Democrat)
I love ‘Jeopardy!’ I grew up watching it at the dinner table each night. A decade ago, on my late uncle’s advice, I applied to be on the show but was unavailable for testing in NYC because I was away at school. Since I moved to the Midwest, I haven’t watched the game show since they air it at 3:30 pm (I’m usually at work). I need to invest in TiVo; I’d love to watch Scottie and see how well he does.

“disagree and you will be nominated”
Danielle screwed herself by trying to play the game right off the bat. Jase was right – if you are at the highest you can be as HOH, why would you drop yourself to the lowest by disagreeing and nominating yourself? Smart of the HOH’s to send her a message and put her up on the block.

girls can rock
The guys did not show up tonight. If you plan on being in a band with Tommy Lee (Motley Crue drummer), Jason Newsted (former Metallica bassist), and Gilby Clarke (former Guns N’ Roses guitarist), you sing Nirvana’s “Lithium” or The Who’s “Pinball Wizard”.
The girls sang these songs, and they rocked! What did the guys sing? Slow stuff like the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” or Coldplay’s “Yellow” (never heard of it). Or you destroy The Police’s classic “Roxanne” by changing it.
My front runners:
- Storm Large (yes, that’s her real name)
- Patrice Pike (great version of Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody To Love”)
- Dilana (terrified me with “Lithium”)
Supernova could very well be fronted by a woman.
friday five – 80’s
I’m late with this, but what the heck …
1) Favourite movie of the 1980s? Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – As much as I hate to admit it, I was, still am, and always will be Cameron.
2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s? Van Halen, and I like both Dave and Sammy.
3) Favourite TV show of the 1980s? At the time, “Who’s The Boss?” (I had a thing for Alyssa Milano). These days, I would say “Cheers”.
4) Favourite invention of the 1980s? At the time, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). These days, I’d have to say the compact disc.
5) World Event from the 1980s that stands out in your mind? The Challenger explosion.

It’s hot in the land of Lincoln …
- I’m getting a crash course in IP management for work. IP addresses, subnet masks, VLANs, DNS, DHCP. I got a lot of studying to do this weekend.
- Taylor Hicks is this season’s American Idol. He has heart and soul when he sings, and I’m glad he won. Kat McPhee was not consistent and way over the top.
- Our cable went out during the season finale of Lost. Thank goodness ABC offers full episode streaming (with ads).
- Did I mention it’s hot?
- King Arthur – ** – not quite like Braveheart. Quite boring, actually.
- 11:14 – **** – more of a black comedy than a drama-thriller; be sure to look both ways before crossing the street!
- I plan to play more with the Lightbox javascript.
Summer’s unofficially here. Enjoy the holiday weekend
you don’t know jack

24 just finished it’s 5th “day”, and what a day it was. Was it the best season? I can’t say that for sure, but it was definitely entertaining. I’ve seen the 1st, 2nd, and 4th seasons in their entirety (I will start watching the 3rd on DVD soon). Each one is fantastic in its own right. And the 5th one left everyone hanging until next January; it won’t come fast enough for me. If you haven’t watched this show, you don’t know what you’re missing. What are you waiting for???

Comma comma down dooby doo down down …
- It’s May, but it feels like March. Temps in the 50′s and 60′s (lows in the 40′s), windy, rainy, and cool.
- American Idol – Chris Daughtry is gone, and the fans of Idol are still in shock. I still believe this “talent” show is really a popularity contest. One writer noted that maybe not enough rock fans watch the show. He’s right. Chris will move on. Thanks to him, I’ve been exposed to rock bands like Fuel and Shinedown.
- Internet Explorer 7 Beta – I’m a Firefox user at heart, but I decided to try IE’s “new and improved” version. I’ll tell you what I think after a week of use.
- National Treasure – *** – interesting, but not believable; I do like scavenger hunts.
- Twisted – ** – unusual and confusing, hence the title.
- Cold Mountain – ***** – great piece set in the Civil War, with a moving story and outstanding performances across the board.
- Did you know last week was National Pet Week? I found out the last day. Salem got a new toy for it (not like he’s spoiled or anything).
An audioblog may be on the way soon. No, really.
